The girls quest of a third straight state championship came up just 7 strokes short finishing Runner Up to Huntsville earlier today. The two-day tournament was played at RTJ Hampton Cove in Huntsville.

The 6A-7A championship was contested by four teams: Hoover, Spain Park, Huntsville and Athens. Huntsville held a first round lead of 6 strokes over Hoover (219-225). In round two Hoover rallied early and cut into the lead but Huntsville was too strong down the stretch and pulled away to win by a total of 7.

Michaela Morard of Huntsville was the individual state champion with a two day total of 138(6 under par). Micheala Williams of Athens was second by one strok at 139. Virginia Green of Fairhope was third with 142, Hoover’s Julie Baker finished 4th with 148(73-75) followed by Hoover’s Mychael O’Berry with 149 (77-72).

Also from Hoover, Carson McKie carded 155(75-80) and Freshman Emily Baker fired a two day total of 168(85-83).
