Over the next several days you will be able to read about Former Hoover Buc Baseball players that are currently playing baseball at the next level.  There are 14 former players across 13 different colleges/professional organizations from Hoover High School that are still playing.  We will highlight these former players by class, starting today with the 2012 class.

Sam Gillikin is the only player from the 2012 class that is still playing baseball after high school. After taking 2016 off due to injury, the 5th year senior outfielder is back on the plains at Auburn University and is currently hitting .235 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI on the very young 2017 season.

2015-Junior Season

Gillikin played in 54 games, starting 30 of those and hit at a .271 clip with 10 RBI, 4 doubles, a triple and a home-run. Sam also scored 8 runs and was a perfect 5 for 5 in the stolen base category. Sam hit .250 in SEC action, starting 14 league games. He was 2 for 4 with a home run at Texas A&M, had a game winning 3-run triple vs Georgia and an RBI single at South Carolina.  He was 1 for 3 in Auburn’s regional win over Mercer.

2014-Sophomore Season

Sam appeared in 24 games with 15 starts, hit .214 with 5 doubles, 4 RBI and a run scored. Had a banner day on 3/25 vs. Kennesaw State where he went 3 for 3 with 2 doubles, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored.

2013- Freshman Season

Appeared in 30 games earning 14 starts, including opening day.  Hit .159 with a double, 3 RBI and a Stolen base.  Sam hit safely in 4 of his first 4 starts and 6 of his first 7 and was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll.

Hoover High School

Sam was a 33rd Rd draft pick of the Atlanta Braves, was ranked 105th high school prospect by Perfect game and 169th draft prospect by Baseball America.  Sam earned 2nd team All-American by Baseball America, 2012 ASWA  First Team All-State outfielder, first team Birmingham All-Metro, All Over the Mountain and 2012 Hoover area player of the year.  He played in the 2011 UnderArmour All- American Game at Wrigley field in Chicago, IL, was 2011 AHSAA North All-Star, First team Birmingham All-Metro, All Over the Mountain and East Coast Pro Showcase Invitee.
