Wilson’s Walkoff Gives Hoover Buccaneers Varsity Victory Over Vestavia Hills
A walk-off single led Hoover Buccaneers Varsity past Vestavia Hills 9-8 on Friday. The game was tied at eight with Hoover Buccaneers Varsity batting in the bottom of the ninth when Peyton Wilson singled, driving in one run.
Both offenses were strong at the plate as Hoover Buccaneers Varsity collected 13 hits and Vestavia Hills eight. Vestavia Hills captured the lead in the first inning. An error scored one run for Vestavia Hills.
After Vestavia Hills scored two runs in the top of the second, Hoover Buccaneers Varsity answered with two of their own. Hoover Buccaneers Varsity then answered when there was an error, scoring one run.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Hoover Buccaneers Varsity tied things up at eight. CJ Gilliland doubled on a 0-2 count in the seventh inning, scoring two runs.
Hoover Buccaneers Varsity scored five runs in the seventh inning. Hoover Buccaneers Varsity scored on a single by Sonny DiChiara, a single by Garrett Farquhar, a single by Brandon Agsalud, and a double by Gilliland.
DiChiara earned the win for Hoover Buccaneers Varsity. He tossed two innings, surrendering zero runs, zero hits, striking out two, and walking one.
Peyton Wilson, Nolan Hammonds, and Farquhar each collected multiple hits for Hoover Buccaneers Varsity. Gilliland went 1-for-4 at the plate as he led the team with two runs batted in.
