Hoover’s football program has finalized the 2017 schedule. The Bucs will again compete in 7A region 3 which includes region teams from throughout the Birmingham metro area.
The non region schedule will be comprised of schools outside the state of Alabama.
Hoover will start the season in non-region play traveling to Loganville, GA to finish the series with Grayson High School. Grayson won the matchup last season 36-14. The Rams went on to finish the 2016 campaign with a 14-1 record winning the Georgia 7A State Championship. 19 players from Grayson’s 2016 senior group have signed to play football in college, and they return a number of top prospects for 2017. Grayson is currently undergoing a search for a head coach after Jeff Herron left to become the head coach at T.L. Hanna high school in South Carolina.
In week two, Hoover will host the Meridian (MS) Wildcats for the first home game of the 2017 season. Meridian posted a 10-4 record in 2016 and advanced to the second round of the Mississippi 6A state playoffs. Two of their four losses were at the hands of Pearl High School who eventually played for the 6A state championship in Mississippi.
Hoover will finish the 2017 regular season hosting IMG Academy out of Bradenton, FL. IMG compiled a record of 11-0 in 2016 with only one game decided by single digits. The team representing the private boarding school does not compete within the Florida High School Athletic Association and therefore can not participate in the state playoffs. The football program has only suffered one loss in the past three seasons and has been honored with 20 Under Armour All Americans in the past 4 seasons.
