Girls Junior Varsity Soccer, Girls Varsity Soccer · Bucs beat Warriors in big area game

7A #7 Hoover traveled to 7A #4 Thompson tonight for a key area.  THS scored 15-20 minutes into the first half to take a 1-0 lead.  Later in the first half Nicole Kennedy headed home the tying goal off a corner kick from Kyla Shaw.  Jordan Henderson got loose in the goal box before being taken down and awarded a PK for HHS early in the second half. Mackenzee Smith stepped up and buried the shot for Hoover.  THS scored a minute later to tie the game at 2-2 and that’s how regulation ended.

The teams battled through two 5-minute “golden goal” overtime periods and headed to penalty shots.  Hoover’s first three shooters: Kyla Shaw, Mackenzee Smith and AK Gonzakez all made their shots.  GK, Elena Register, stopped all three of Thompson’s shots to seal the victory for the Bucs.

Hoover improves to 8-5 (2-1 in area play) and hosts Tuscaloosa County on Wednesday in another area match.
