Hoover Buccaneers Varsity Grabs Lead In Sixth Inning For Victory Over Spain Park
The Buccaneers scored first in the bottom of the second inning. Max Garvey led the inning off with a double, which was followed by a Ty Robinson bunt single, which moved the speed up runner, Sam Sanford to third base. With CJ Gilliland at the plate, Sanford scored on a runner’s interference call at second base. This gave the Bucs the first score of the game.
Spain Park scored two runs in the top of the sixth, but the Buccaneers answered back in the bottom half of the inning. Tyler Williams reached first on an error by the shortstop, and Nolan Hammonds singled, which brought up the pinch hitter, Jacob Kopkin. Kopkin came up with a huge RBI pinch hit single to tie the game. A wild pitch scored Hammonds from third, and Max Garvey moved Kopkin to third with a textbook sac bunt. Jacob Kopkin scored on a sac fly by Ty Robinson to the right fielder, which plated the Bucs third run of the inning.
Spain Park scored a run in the top of the seventh, but Scott Elgin came in the game and recorded the last two outs, and the save. Griffin Lape earned the win for Hoover Buccaneers Varsity. He tossed one and one-third innings, giving up one run, three hits, striking out one, and walking zero.
Daniel Swatek started the game for Hoover Buccaneers Varsity, and threw great again. He went five innings, allowing zero runs, two hits, and striking out four.
Jacob Kopkin, CJ Gilliland, and Ty Robinson each drove in one run, while Nolan Hammonds led the Bucs going 2-3 at the plate.
