Hoover Buccaneers Freshman Wins Back-And-Forth Affair Against Spain Park
Hoover Buccaneers Freshman defeated Spain Park 15-5 in a back-and-forth affair on Tuesday. The game was tied at five with Hoover Buccaneers Freshman batting in the bottom of the fourth when Avery Anderson singled, driving in -1.
Hoover Buccaneers Freshman earned the victory despite allowing Spain Park to score four runs in the third inning. Spain Park’s big inning was driven by a stolen base, a single , a stolen base, and a stolen base.
Spain Park took an early lead in the first inning.
Hoover Buccaneers Freshman took the lead for good with four runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Robby Ashford hit a sacrifice fly to drive in a run, Avery Anderson singled, driving in 1, and Davis Young doubled, driving in one.
Hoover Buccaneers Freshman scored five runs in the sixth inning. Hoover Buccaneers Freshman scored on a double by Anderson, a stolen base by Carter Wright, a single by Colson Lawrence, and a single by Ashford.
Hoover Buccaneers Freshman had 12 hits in the game. Anderson, Ashford, Lawrence, and Young each collected multiple hits for Hoover Buccaneers Freshman. Lawrence, Ashford, and Anderson each managed three hits to lead Hoover Buccaneers Freshman.

Game Recap

The boy’s Varsity defeated Thompson 3-0 in an area and Metro tournament match Wednesday. Alex MacQuarrie scored 2 first half goals one assisted by Harrison Gilmer for Hoover. Jared Walker scored the third goal assisted by Alex Tovar. Hayden Cousineau and Max Rudolph combined in goal for the shutout. Hoover record is 7-2-2.

Game Recap

Hoover Varsity Drops Game To Thompson After Late Score
Hoover’s game against Thompson was a heartbreaker, as they lost the lead late in a 9-3 defeat. Thompson trailed 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning when #6 homered off of Brynn Parker, driving in two runs.
Thompson scored six runs in the sixth inning. The big inning for Thompson came thanks to a home run by #6, a single by #8, a triple by #12, and a single by #00.
#37 earned the win for Thompson. She went seven innings, surrendering three runs, 13 hits, and striking out four.
Brynn Parker took the loss for Hoover Varsity. She pitched two and two-thirds innings, surrendering seven runs, seven hits, striking out three, and walking one.
Madeline Harris started the game for Hoover Varsity. She went three innings, giving up zero runs, three hits, and striking out two.
Hoover Varsity collected 13 hits. Abby Tissier, Caroline Hart, Leslie Norris, and Hannah Presley each collected multiple hits for Hoover Varsity. Hart and Tissier all had three hits to lead Hoover Varsity.
Thompson had 13 hits in the game. #6, #12, and #5 each collected multiple hits for Thompson. Thompson didn’t commit a single error in the field. #3 had five chances in the field, the most on the team.

Helena Captures Lead Early To Defeat Hoover Buccaneers Varsity

Hoover Buccaneers Varsity fell behind early and couldn’t come back in an 11-1 loss to Helena on Wednesday.

Scott Elgin took the loss for Hoover Buccaneers Varsity. He tossed one inning, giving up six runs, five hits, and walking zero. Helena collected 11 hits, from the Bucs pitching staff. Shaw Niblett pitched two innings of relief and only gave up three hits and one run.

The Bucs tried to cut into the lead in the third inning with one out when Tyler Williams hit a single. This was followed by Nolan Hammonds being hit by a pitch, and a single from Sonny Dichiara and Max Garvey. The was all the that offense could get going as Ty Robinson flied out to the catcher in foul territory for out two and CJ Gilliland squared a ball up right at the second baseman. Sonny DiChiara, Tyler Williams, Brandon Agsalud, Nick Davis, Garrett Farquhar, CJ Gilliland, and Max Garvey all had one hit to lead Hoover Buccaneers Varsity offensively.

The Buccaneers will be back in action on Tuesday, March 21st, as the face the defending 7A state champions, Hewitt Trussville at the Hoover Met.

Meet Recap

In a very competitive match, Hoover’s boys tennis team came up just short in a 6-3 loss to Spain Park. Zac Tucker and Josh Oakman accounted for all three of Hoover’s wins. They teamed up to win #2 doubles 9-8 and then won #3 and #4 singles. In #1 singles Spain Park’s Ty Sovic beat Nathan Ng in a 9-8 (11-9) tiebreaker. At #5 and #6 singles, Kartik Patel and Jake Berg lost by only 2 games each (8-6 and 9-7). Hoover will look to turn the rivalry in their favor in a rematch on April 12.

Meet Recap

The Hoover girls tennis team had a tough evening against Spain Park in an 8-1 loss to the Jaguars. Although the team had a disappointing week, #4 singles player Julia Keffer continues to impress against tough competition. Keffer won back to back singles matches against Vestavia and Spain Park 8-6. The girls team will look to rebound against Ramsay, Northridge, and Briarwood next week.

Hoover Buccaneers JV and Spain Park played a tight game, but Spain Park pulled out the 8-4 victory on Tuesday. The game was tied at two with Spain Park batting in the top of the sixth when Moser singled off of Jack Henry Milligan, driving in two runs.
Hoover Buccaneers JV captured the lead in the first inning. An error scored one run for Hoover Buccaneers JV .
Hoover Buccaneers JV evened things up at two in the bottom of the fifth inning. Hoover Buccaneers JV scored one run on a stolen base in the fifth inning.
Jack Henry Milligan took the loss for Hoover Buccaneers JV . He went five and a third innings, surrendering seven runs, five hits, and striking out three.
Jesse Kelley and Brooks Brymer each drove in one run to lead Hoover Buccaneers JV .

Game Recap

Hoover Buccaneers Varsity Grabs Lead In Sixth Inning For Victory Over Spain Park

The Buccaneers scored first in the bottom of the second inning. Max Garvey led the inning off with a double, which was followed by a Ty Robinson bunt single, which moved the speed up runner, Sam Sanford to third base. With CJ Gilliland at the plate, Sanford scored on a runner’s interference call at second base. This gave the Bucs the first score of the game.

Spain Park scored two runs in the top of the sixth, but the Buccaneers answered back in the bottom half of the inning. Tyler Williams reached first on an error by the shortstop, and Nolan Hammonds singled, which brought up the pinch hitter, Jacob Kopkin. Kopkin came up with a huge RBI pinch hit single to tie the game. A wild pitch scored Hammonds from third, and Max Garvey moved Kopkin to third with a textbook sac bunt. Jacob Kopkin scored on a sac fly by Ty Robinson to the right fielder, which plated the Bucs third run of the inning.

Spain Park scored a run in the top of the seventh, but Scott Elgin came in the game and recorded the last two outs, and the save. Griffin Lape earned the win for Hoover Buccaneers Varsity. He tossed one and one-third innings, giving up one run, three hits, striking out one, and walking zero.

Daniel Swatek started the game for Hoover Buccaneers Varsity, and threw great again. He went five innings, allowing zero runs, two hits, and striking out four.

Jacob Kopkin, CJ Gilliland, and Ty Robinson each drove in one run, while Nolan Hammonds led the Bucs going 2-3 at the plate.

The Hoover girls tennis team was unable to find much success against the defending state champions in an 8-1 loss to Vestavia Hills. The Rebels started with a 3-0 lead after doubles and then won five of the six singles matches. Julia Keffer won #4 singles 8-6 but that was Hoover’s only victory of the evening. The boys and girls host Spain Park Wednesday.

Avery Anderson was brilliant on the mound on Saturday, as he threw a no-hitter to lead Hoover Buccaneers Freshman past Sparkman 9-0.
Hoover Buccaneers Freshman grabbed an early lead. Hoover Buccaneers Freshman scored on a double by Avery Anderson in the first inning, a walk by Carter Wright in the first inning, and a triple by Robby Ashford in the second inning.
Hoover Buccaneers Freshman took an early lead in the first inning. Anderson doubled on a 1-2 count in the first inning, scoring two runs.
Anderson earned the win for Hoover Buccaneers Freshman. He went seven innings, allowing zero runs, zero hits, and striking out four.
Hoover Buccaneers Freshman had ten hits in the game. Ashford and Cody Crain each collected multiple hits for Hoover Buccaneers Freshman. Ashford led Hoover Buccaneers Freshman with three hits in four at bats. Hoover Buccaneers Freshman tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. John Cox led the way with three.
