Guffey Throws Shutout As Hoover Buccaneers Varsity Defeats Oak Mountain

Brock Guffey didn’t allow a single run, while striking out twelve, giving up only two hits and one walk in a complete game shutout as Hoover Buccaneers Varsity defeated Oak Mountain 2-0 on Thursday.

Sonny Dichiara had a two out single in the bottom of the fourth, that was followed by a single from Ty Robinson, and an RBI single from Brandon Agsalud.

The Bucs were able to tack on another insurance run in the bottom of the sixth, when Nolan Hammonds led off with a walk. He stole second base, and got to third via a balk call. Hammonds scored on a wild pitch to give the Bucs their second run of the evening.

Sonny DiChiara, Brandon Agsalud, CJ Gilliland, and Ty Robinson each managed one hit to lead Hoover Buccaneers Varsity, with Agsalud having the only RBI on the night.

The Hoover Buccaneers will be back in action on Saturday, when they travel to Southside-Gadsden, to take on Southside-Gadsden and Etowah.

Hoover Varsity Loses Lead Early In Defeat

Hoover Varsity lost 10-2 to Tuscaloosa County on Thursday. Tuscaloosa County took an early lead in the first inning when they scored on a home run by #4 and a double by #15.
.
Tuscaloosa County scored four runs in the seventh inning. Tuscaloosa County’s big inning was driven by a home run by #16, a double by #33, and a single by #11.
#15 earned the win for Tuscaloosa County. She pitched seven innings, giving up two runs, five hits, striking out two, and walking zero.
Hannah Minor took the loss for Hoover Varsity. She tossed one-third of an inning, allowing four runs, three hits, and walking one.
Home runs for Hoover Varsity came when Kaley Anthony homered in the fifth inning and Caroline Hart homered in the seventh inning.
Kaley Anthony, Jamie Gregg, Abby Tissier, Caroline Nichols, and Caroline Hart each collected one hit for Hoover.

It came down to the last play, but Hoover Buccaneers JV was on the wrong end of a 4-3 defeat to Oak Mountain on Wednesday. Oak Mountain trailed 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Jackson Kimbrel doubled off of Lawrence Hammonds, driving in two runs.
Oak Mountain captured the lead in the first inning.
Hoover Buccaneers JV scored three runs in the third inning. The big inning was thanks to a single by Kole Roberts.
Jack Henry Milligan started the game for Hoover Buccaneers JV . He pitched five and a third innings, surrendering two runs, four hits, striking out five, and walking one.
Roberts went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Hoover Buccaneers JV in hits.

Hoover Buccaneers Varsity Fights Back In Loss To Oak Mountain
Hoover Buccaneers Varsity fought back after falling down by six runs in the fourth inning. The comeback fell just short though, in a 6-4 defeat to Oak Mountain on Thursday.
Hoover Buccaneers Varsity fell behind early in the loss. Oak Mountain scored on a single and a double in the second inning with two outs in the second inning.
Hoover Buccaneers Varsity battled back by scoring four runs in the sixth inning. The big inning was thanks to a double by Tyler Williams, a single by Max Garvey, and a single by CJ Gilliland. Jacob Kopkin drove in the fourth run of the inning with a sac fly.
Scott Elgin took the loss for Hoover Buccaneers Varsity. He tossed three and two-thirds innings, giving up six runs, nine hits, and striking out two.
Hoover Buccaneers Varsity had seven hits in the game. Garvey and Gilliland each collected multiple hits for Hoover Buccaneers Varsity. Gilliland and Garvey had two hits to lead Hoover Buccaneers Varsity. Hoover Buccaneers Varsity didn’t commit a single error in the field. Ty Robinson had seven chances in the field, the most on the team.
The Bucs will be back in action tomorrow night with they host Oak Mountain, Thursday March 9th.

Hoover’s Angie Morales won #1 singles 8-4, but the girls team was unable to secure any other victories in an 8-1 loss to Mountain Brook. Despite the lopsided overall score, the Bucs kept it close in several matches. Sarah Corinne Holditch lost #3 singles 8-5. The #1 doubles team of Morales and Kennedy Ward came very close in an 8-6 loss. The #2 doubles team of Holditch and Julia Keffer also lost a competitive match 8-6. Despite coming close in several matches, the Hoover boys tennis team was unable to win a match against defending 7A state champion Mountain Brook. Josh Oakman (#4 singles) and Jake Berg (#6 singles) both lost 8-6. Kartik Patel lost #5 singles 8-5. In doubles the #2 team lost 8-4 and the #3 team lost 8-5. The boys and girls team plays next on Monday at home against Huffman.

Hoover Buccaneers Freshman Takes Some Time To Pull Away From Thompson
Hoover Buccaneers Freshman had trouble putting away Thompson on Monday, but eventually Hoover Buccaneers Freshman prevailed 3-2. Hoover Buccaneers Freshman took the lead for good in the third inning. The game was tied at two with Hoover Buccaneers Freshman batting in the bottom of the third when Davis Young singled, driving in one run.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Hoover Buccaneers Freshman pitchers struck out seven, while hurlers for Thompson sat down four.
Hoover Buccaneers Freshman took an early lead in the first inning. Ethan Pomeroy drove in one when he singled in the first inning.Hoover Buccaneers Freshman took the lead for good with one run in the third inning.
Davis Young and Pomeroy each drove in one run to lead Hoover Buccaneers Freshman. Hoover Buccaneers Freshman was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Pomeroy had the most chances in the field with seven.
