Hoover Bucs Freshman fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 14-6 loss to Mountain Brook on Saturday. Mountain Brook scored on a groundout by John Cooper in the first inning, a error in the second inning, and a double by James Grapmos in the second inning.
Despite the loss, Hoover Bucs Freshman did collect seven hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Mountain Brook had 14 hits on the way to victory.
Mountain Brook fired up the offense in the first inning. Cooper grounded out, scoring two runs.
Mountain Brook scored six runs in the sixth inning. Cooper, Hunter Keller, and Grapmos all drove in runs in the frame. Sellers Nevendore led things off on the hill for Mountain Brook. The hurler allowed three hits and four runs over three innings.
Noah Smith was on the hill for Hoover Bucs Freshman. He lasted three and two-thirds innings, allowing five hits and six runs. John Mark Norris and Andrew Pitts entered the game as relief, throwing two innings and one inning respectively.
Caid Finn went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Hoover Bucs Freshman in hits.
Mountain Brook collected 14 hits. Grapmos, Ben Payne, and Keller each collected multiple hits for Mountain Brook. Grapmos led Mountain Brook with five hits in five at bats.
