Bucs Varsity stole the lead late and defeated Boaz 19-9 on Saturday. The game was tied at nine with Bucs Varsity batting in the bottom of the fifth when.
Sonny DiChiara led Bucs Varsity to victory by driving in five runs. He went 2-for-3 at the plate. DiChiara drove in runs on a double in the third and a home run in the fifth.
Bucs Varsity knotted the game up at nine in the bottom of the fourth inning, when Daniel Swatek’s sac fly scored one run for Bucs Varsity.
Evan Veal earned the win for Bucs Varsity. He lasted one and two-thirds innings, allowing four hits and zero runs while striking out four and walking zero. Swatek and Scott Elgin entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
Michael Gilliland got the start for Boaz. He allowed zero hits and zero runs over one inning, striking out two and walking zero. Jackson Sarratt, Judd McKinney, and Easton Hardin each contributed in relief for Boaz.
Bucs Varsity tallied two home runs on the day. Nolan Hammonds went for the long ball in the fifth inning. DiChiara put one out in the fifth inning.
Bucs Varsity racked up 13 hits in the game. Preston Moore, Swatek, and DiChiara all had multiple hits for Bucs Varsity. Swatek and Moore all had three hits to lead Bucs Varsity.
Boaz collected 14 hits. Brian Montgomery, Hardin, Logan Bailey, Gilliland, and McKane Holland all collected multiple hits for Boaz.
