Bucs Varsity nabbed the lead late in the game in a 3-2 victory over Oxford on Saturday. The game was tied at two with Bucs Varsity batting in the bottom of the sixth when Preston Moore singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Scott Elgin struck out six, while Parker Stinnett sat down six.
Oxford got on the board in the second inning. Stinnett grounded out, scoring one run.
Bucs Varsity evened things up at two in the bottom of the third inning. Bucs Varsity scored one run when Nolan Hammonds singled.
Elgin took the win for Bucs Varsity. He went seven innings, allowing two runs on three hits, striking out six and walking one.
Stinnett was on the mound for Oxford. He lasted six innings, allowing six hits and three runs while striking out six and walking one.
Sonny DiChiara led Bucs Varsity with two hits in three at bats. Bucs Varsity didn’t commit a single error in the field. DiChiara had nine chances in the field, the most on the team.
Oxford didn’t commit a single error in the field. Tyler Smith had the most chances in the field with ten.
