Despite allowing three runs in the fifth inning, Bucs Varsity defeated Smiths Station 7-3 on Monday. Smiths Station offense in the inning was led by Carter Duke, Tyler Byrd, and Justin Owens, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
Bucs Varsity got things started in the second inning when Evan Veal doubled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.
Bucs Varsity notched three runs in the third inning. Bucs Varsity’s big inning was driven by singles by Veal and Nolan Hammonds.
Scott Elgin was the winning pitcher for Bucs Varsity. He surrendered zero runs on zero hits over one inning, striking out two and walking zero.
Clay Weatherly was on the mound for Smiths Station. He surrendered two runs on two hits over two innings, striking out three and walking one. Jerry Dale Bowman, Dylan Norrell, Ryan Middleton, and Dalton Harrelson each entered the game as relief, throwing two innings, one inning, one inning, and one inning respectively.
Bucs Varsity scattered eight hits in the game. Hammonds, Veal, and Peyton Wilson all managed multiple hits for Bucs Varsity. Wilson, Veal, and Hammonds each collected two hits to lead Bucs Varsity. Smiths Station tallied six hits. Duke and Owens all managed multiple hits for Smiths Station. Smiths Station was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Dalton Gunter had the most chances in the field with eight.
