Bucs Varsity snagged a late lead and defeated Tuscaloosa County 10-2 on Thursday. The game was tied at two with Bucs Varsity batting in the top of the fifth when an error scored one run for Bucs Varsity.
Bucs Varsity secured the victory thanks to six runs in the fifth inning. Daniel Swatek, Nolan Hammonds, Joshua Kissinger, Kole Roberts, and Alex Baty all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.
Tuscaloosa County got on the board in the first inning when Jackson Rhodes doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs.
Connor Campbell earned the win for Bucs Varsity. He went two innings, allowing zero runs on three hits, striking out two and walking zero. Evan Veal threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Tanner Giles led things off on the hill for Tuscaloosa County. He lasted four and two-thirds innings, allowing seven hits and five runs while striking out four. Grant Hickman and Garrison Estes entered the game as relief, throwing two innings and one-third of an inning respectively.
Bucs Varsity tallied 13 hits in the game. Preston Moore, Swatek, and Roberts all had multiple hits for Bucs Varsity. Roberts, Swatek, and Moore each managed two hits to lead Bucs Varsity. Bucs Varsity was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Kissinger had the most chances in the field with six.
Blake Bowers went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Tuscaloosa County in hits.
