Bucs Varsity claimed a 11-7 victory on Thursday, despite a big push by Vestavia Hills in the first inning. The offensive firepower by Vestavia Hills was led by Colton Lewis, Andrew Knight, William Schaffeld, and Chris Dugas, all driving in runs in the frame.
Bats blistered as Bucs Varsity collected 11 hits and Vestavia Hills tallied five in the high-scoring game.
Vestavia Hills opened up an early lead in the first inning when an error scored two runs for Vestavia Hills.
Bucs Varsity took the lead for good with three runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Preston Moore singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run and Nolan Hammonds singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.
Bucs Varsity tallied three runs in the seventh inning. Bucs Varsity’s offense in the inning came from home runs by Jack Henry Milligan and Peyton Wilson.
Sonny DiChiara earned the victory on the pitcher’s mound for Bucs Varsity. He allowed one hit and zero runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out nine. Joshua Kissinger threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Graham Duncan led things off on the hill for Vestavia Hills. He went two and a third innings, allowing five runs on six hits, striking out one and walking zero. Bo Minor and Jack Mason entered the game as relief, throwing four and a third innings and one-third of an inning respectively.
Bucs Varsity smacked three home runs on the day. Wilson had a long ball in the third and seventh innings. Milligan went deep in the seventh inning.
Bucs Varsity collected 11 hits on the day. Moore, Hammonds, DiChiara, and Wilson each collected multiple hits for Bucs Varsity. Moore went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Bucs Varsity in hits.
Knight led Vestavia Hills with two hits in two at bats.
