Bucs Varsity lost the lead late in a 7-3 defeat to Hewitt-Trussville on Saturday. The game was tied at three with Hewitt-Trussville batting in the top of the seventh when Ed Johnson doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
In the first inning, Hewitt-Trussville got their offense started. Carson Skipper tripled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.
Bucs Varsity tallied three runs in the fourth inning. Bucs Varsity’s offense in the inning came from singles by Preston Moore and Nolan Hammonds and by Daniel Swatek.
Johnson was on the mound for Hewitt-Trussville. He surrendered three runs on seven hits over seven innings, striking out seven.
Griffin Lape led things off on the hill for Bucs Varsity. He lasted six innings, allowing six hits and five runs while striking out six and walking one. Sonny DiChiara threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Moore went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Bucs Varsity in hits.
Hewitt-Trussville collected eight hits. Johnson and Preston Jones each racked up multiple hits for Hewitt-Trussville. Hewitt-Trussville was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Evan Kirk had the most chances in the field with seven.
