James Clemens High School vs Hoover High School

The Bucs began their 2020 campaign at home versus the number three ranked Jets of James Clemens High School. This was the first regular season game after Monday’s opener was postponed due to rain. The game began at a very fast pace as Senior forward Mackenzee Smith made her return after being sidelined for the 2019 season with a knee injury. She made her presence known quickly, as she directed an aggressive Hoover offensive attack. This pressure culminated in an early first half goal as Senior Kyla Shaw found the back of the net off a Hoover corner barely five minutes into the match. The Jets seemed like they were going to equalize on a blistering shot to the far post, but number ten of James Clemens was denied by Goalie Haley Lowell. The Bucs had two good scoring chances, but shots by Smith and Shaw just missed their mark. However Kyla added her second goal off a free kick with less than ten minutes left in the first half.
The second half saw one new face and one familiar face for Hoover get into the scoring action. The Bucs increased their lead as LeAnna Eubanks’ cross found an open Mallie Eron. She struck the ball true and increased the lead to 3-0. Senior Midfielder Taylor Girouard finished off the scoring with a nice shot to put Hoover ahead 4-0. The Bucs seemed like they were headed for a shutout but a late PK with three seconds left ended the match at 4-1. Both the JV and Varsity will be back in action tomorrow at Hewitt-Trussville. Game times are 5 p.m JV and 7 p.m. Varsity. Go Bucs!
