The Buccaneers found themselves on the road Friday night as they traveled to Briarwood to take on the Lions. Jessica Johnson got the start in goal for the Bucs and she was tested early and often as the Lions pressed their attack right from the opening whistle. Briarwood finally broke through on a great pass and shot as they went ahead 1-0 just seven minutes into the half. The Bucs then began to take control of the game by maintaining control of the possession and getting good shots by Nneka Udeh, LeAnna Eubanks and Lauren McEwan. This barrage of offense paid off as Mallie Eron put a strong shot passed the Lion’s goal keeper. The half ended tied 1-1.
The second half was a back and forth affair with both teams having good scoring opportunities. But bad luck bit Hoover as a Briarwood shot deflected off Buc defender Lauren Flannelly. Goalkeeper Johnson was unable to stop the deflection from going in with 17 minutes to go in the second half. The Bucs were not able to get the equalizer and the game ended in a 2-1 loss.
