The Hoover Bucs were at home to face a crucial area match up versus Thompson High School last night. The Bucs defeated the Warriors on the road 1-0 earlier in the season. This game was a must win for both teams. The game began with both sides playing very physical and fast. Hoover was the first to light up the scoreboard. The goal came off a beautiful cross by Nicole Kennedy to LeAnna Eubanks who volleyed the ball into the goal off a left side run. The Bucs began to take control of the match with good possession and solid defense. The second goal for the Bucs was a looping shot by Gracie Sears that found the back of the net to put Hoover up 2-0. That score line was short lived, as less than a minute later Senior Captain Gabby Walker netted a goal off a blistering shot to increase the lead to 3-0. Thompson would finally breakthrough off a free kick. The penalty was the result of a Hoover foul just outside the goal box. The half would end with Hoover up 3-1.
The second half saw Hoover come out very determined to get an early knock out goal. A long through pass which connected to Corrine Crawford appeared to be that goal. She blasted the shot pass the Warrior goalkeeper, but the goal was waved off as she was ruled offside. But the Bucs were far from finished on offense for the night. LeAnna Eubanks added her second goal off a precise through ball with 12:11 left to increase the Bucs lead to 4-1. Gabby Walker added her second goal off a Hoover corner to seal the final victory 5-1 for Hoover.
The Bucs will be back in action this coming Tuesday 4/16 at Hoover. It will be Hoover versus Oak Mountain. The winner will be in the driver’s seat for the area championship. Go Bucs!
