The Hoover Bucs welcomed the Hewitt-Trussville Huskies last night to Buccaneer Stadium. The Bucs offense got started quickly as Senior forward LeAnna Eubanks had a couple of early opportunities that were stopped by the Huskie’s goalie. Trussville countered and looked to take the lead off a free kick but Junior Buc goalie Anna Markland was up to the task as she made a great save. She followed up that save with two more great plays to keep the Huskies scoreless. The first goal of the game came off a penalty kick as LeAnna Eubanks netted her first score of the year and gave Hoover a 1-0 lead. The first half would end with Hoover leading 1-0.
The second half saw the Bucs fall behind as Trussville scored two quick goal with less than a few minutes gone in the half. Trussville began to take control of the match as they had multiple additional scoring chances. Senior defenders Britt Slifka and Jessica Johnson made outstanding plays to shut down the Huskies. The Bucs began to regain control of the match after the shaky start of the second half. Hoover nearly scored after a beautiful two pass combo and shot from Eubanks to Lauren McEwan to Kirsten Wrona. The Bucs continued the relentless pressure as Mallie Eron took a pass for a Trussville defender and struck a hard shot the Husky goalie was able to deflect. Abby Leader found the deflection and put the shot home and Hoover tied the match 2-2. The Bucs had other scoring chances but were unable to get the winning goal. It was a great showing by the Bucs. They are back in action next Tuesday, as we travel to Vestavia to play the Rebels at 7 p.m. Go Bucs!
