After a disappointing road trip last week the Girls Varsity were eager to get back on track. Hoover welcomed the Trojans from Carrollton High School Ga. The Bucs were missing a few players due to injury and the flu, but they were not going to be denied. The visitors started out quickly and would have scored if not for some stellar plays by the Bucs defensive back line and goalie. Senior Bryce Varner and Junior Lauren Flannelly both made great plays for the Bucs defense to the keep the score tied after offensive opportunities from Carrollton were turned away. Hoover was the first to score as Kyla Shaw kicked a high arching shot that found the far upper ninety of the goal. That would be the only score as the first half would end with Hoover ahead 1-0.
During the second half of the match Hoover began to take control as they maintained possession. The Bucs still had a hard time increasing the lead as several shots failed to find their mark including a looping volley by Corrine Crawford. However Emilee Glaze was finally able to give the home fans some relief as she scored her first goal of the year. Sophomore forward Mallie Eron completed the scoring as she made a hard run past the defender and hit a well placed shot to the near post for a 3-0 lead. Goalie Haley Lowell had the clean sheet and the Bucs record improved to 2-1. They are back in action this Friday at home versus the Homewood Patriots at 7 p.m. Go Bucs!
